The origins of FREEDIVING. Tribute to Jaques Mayol, father of Freediving

Yoga is the perfect complement to freediving.

Yoga & Freediving.

Freediving and Yoga have lots in common, after all Jaques Mayol the father of freediving developed his methods and training exercises largely from the Yoga and Pranyama which he learnt in India. Yoga is sometimes defined as ‘yoke’ as in to join two things together. In the western understanding of this it generally means joining mind, spirit and body. Yoga also focuses largely on breath control & deep relaxation both important aspects for the Freediver.

Luke and Michelle go way back, kindred spirits who both moved from Malta to the tranquillity of Gozo around the same time. Freediving and Yoga practice naturally become part of a life style which both teachers embody.

Yoga in between dive sessions or during diving ‘rest/break’ days is the ideal practice to enhance our Freediving abilities. Michelle offers tailor made yoga sessions in Gharb Gozo. You may start with a consultation, join a drop in session or plan a one on one with her.
