Wied Lghasri/ Cathedral cave

One of the best dive sites on the North side of the Island. Picture perfect absolutely worth going there any way you look at it. Get ready for some stairs though (its probably the reason why its not crowded). Wied Lghasri looks like a small Fjord or large creek about 150m long, opening up to the open sea.  Very easy excess to the water, after a swim out of the creek you can find the cave on your right. Almost impossible to spot as the only way to enter the cave is to swim down around five meters and enter the darkness. Going in would be pitch black since the sun light is behind you, so just make sure that you are with an experienced guide who has been there before. Exiting is easier because you just need to follow the light !

Once inside the cave you will be able to surface, breathe ventilated air and understand why it is called Cathedral Cave; the walls are covered in corals, hydroids, sponges and golden zoanthids. The Cathedral Cave dive in Gozo is a perfect place for underwater photography as the sunlight from the arch of the entrance and the many holes and cracks in the ceiling create amazing blue lights.

Cathedral Cave is good for all levels of diving skills and the depth of the cave is 12-30 meters, with average visibility of 25 meters. In winter and spring, when the weather is a bit cooler Wied il-Ghasri or Ghasri Valley is a beautiful place for country walks or cycling.Location: North west Coast of Gozo (Map)
